INSTRUCTORS:
Dr. Nobuo Morita is a professor in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
He has been also a consult for many major oil companies in the world. Below is a list of his contributions to the oil and gas industry:
- Clarified complex mechanism of the onset of sand production
- Created Sand3d numerical model widely used in oil companies
- Initiated screenless frac pack
- Initiated the oriented perforation technique for reducing sanding
- Patent holder of widely used stand-alone metal woven screen
- Developed a quick method to estimate in-situ stress change during reservoir depletion
- Developed new methods of casing design under geotechnical loading
- Developed new fluid-loss control materials reducing formation damage
- Initiated and developed wellbore strengthening method with his colleagues
He teaches the following graduate level courses:
- Finite element methods for application to petroleum engineering problems
- Boundary element methods for application to petroleum engineering problems
- Linear and Non-linear rock mechanics (application of geomechanics for sand production, borehole breakout, reservoir compaction and casing problems)
